This is a book about wisdom, what it is, how it works, and how we can use it to make our lives better.
To be more precise, this is a book about biblical wisdom, the wisdom we learn about in scripture.
And, as we shall see, biblical wisdom is often not what we expect from a book about wisdom!
(From the “preface” to Wisdom about Wisdom)
Wisdom About Wisdom by Greg Giles
Here are some answers to the question: Why does the cover photo show a tree reflected in water?
“The book contains reflections on wisdom”
“The reflection shows that wisdom’s roots run deep.”
“the reflection represents Christ as the basis of wisdom.”
“Psalm 1 comes to mind”
It reminds me of Lake Marquette, where OHCC is located, where I met the author and gained a lot of wisdom.
We are supposed to reflect God’s wisdom.
“The reflection represents that there is more than one way to think about wisdom.”

I particularly liked several things: The focus on virtue ethics instead of morality as a set of rules to follow. That the wisdom literature contains different perspectives. That wisdom does not guarantee that there is only one answer to a question. That biblical wisdom repeatedly calls for social justice for those easily taken advantage of in their society (the widow, the orphan and the alien). The humility with which you set forth your views.

Giles explores profound truths but with a light touch. He thoroughly explores the teaching of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Job, but also visits Sherlock Holmes and Poor Richard. He concludes with a penetrating analysis of wisdom's fulfilment in Jesus of Nazareth.

A truly fresh approach to what biblical wisdom is and is not and why it matters for us and our world. The many relevant illustrations make the reading enjoyable while taking the reader into deeper reflection on this important topic.

A great book studying the wisdom books of the Bible for the scholar and the everyday reader. The author enriches his study with his humor and life experiences in other cultures. Well worth the read!—Muanbon

here is my review:
Add reactionDescription goes here
